The Dyson DC24 Ball series vacuum cleaner is Dyson's "lightweight" upright model. At approximately 12 pounds, it's very light for a Dyson. Most lightweight vacuum cleaners weight 8 to 9 pounds, but the Dyson DC24 upright is 4 pounds lighter than Dyson DC25 vacuum so we'll leave it at that. The Dyson DC24 upright vacuum we will further review is the All Floors model vac.
The Dyson Ball is on tv as much as Seinfeld. Our experience is that consumers think that the ball features is the be all, end all. When we tested this vacuum cleaner out, we were surprised at how well it manuevered. It actually works like it does in the commercial. Dyson did a nice job adding the "Ball" features to there vacuum line. Don't expect to clean underneath your bed with this vacuum, but other than that the ball vacuum really is easy to turn and navigate. We didn't notice any loss of performance on the carpets we tested this features on either. This vacuum maintained it's suction as we whirled and twirled it around the floor.
The Dyson DC24 upright vacuum can also become pretty compact. The handle compresses for storage and handling. This design is striking similar to one there competitors (the other vacuum is a popular bagless vacuum as well) which we found amusing. As a result of the ability to adjust the handle, this vacuum is a little bit easier to carry up the stairs when necessary.
As you would expect, the Dyson Ball DC24 is a bagless vacuum and has a long lasting HEPA filter. This machine is certifed by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. We weren't familiar with them. This Dyson vacuum had very low emissions during normal operation, but we don't really think that bagless vacuums are best choice for people with asthma and allergies, especially if that's the person who has to empty the dirt cup. The filtration on this vacuum was good while it was operating, but it's still a bagless vacuum so you will encounter dust and debris when you emtpy the dirt cup.
The Dyson DC24 All Floors Ball vacuum performed well on the carpeted and hard surfaces we tested it on. We felt that it did a pretty good job removing pet hair from the floor. It has all the standard cleaning tools that one would expect. This vacuum was pretty user friendly. One thing we didn't care for was the length of the cord. It was only 20 feet long, which is really on the short side.
